The New York Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine for the annual Memorial Day concert on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue ( 112th Street).
Outdoor seating for fully vaccinated people will be available on the Cathedral’s Pulpit Green, and the performance will be streamed live for free on NYPhil +, at the Philharmonic. Facebook and YouTube channels, and on the Cathedral website and Facebook page.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the cathedral building will not be open to the public for this year’s show. As is tradition, the audio of the performance will be played on the adjacent Pulpit Green.
To help ensure the health and safety of all visitors, staff, residents and performers, anyone wishing to enter the grounds for the annual Memorial Day concert should be fully immunized and wear masks when found. on the grounds of the cathedral. To make the performance as accessible as possible, the concert will also be broadcast live online for all to watch.
Monday’s program, presented without an intermission, will feature works by Mahler, Jessie Montgomery, Mozart, Schubert and Carlos Simon, conducted by Gemma New.
Online registration is suggested, but will not guarantee access to Pulpit Green. Visitors are invited to line up at 4 p.m. and the doors will open at 5 p.m. The concert will start quickly at 7 p.m.
