Two up-and-coming young actors will take center stage in a production about a much-loved ogre.

Rehearsals are underway for Shrek The Musical, which will be at Cromer Pier’s Pavilion Theater during midterm May 28-June 4.

The cast includes Harry Wilson as Pinocchio and 22-year-old Charlotte Drewell in the related roles of Sugar Plum Fairy and Gingy.

Robin Taylor, Chairman of Cromer and Sheringham Operatic and Dramatic Society, which organizes the show, said: “CSODS has always prided itself on supporting young talent and we have an established Youth Fellowship which offers grants to young members who undertake studies in theater and performance fields on and off stage.

“We’ve had several former members who have gone professional in the industry, and it’s always a proud feeling to know that they started with CSODS.”

Harry is from Sheringham and has been appearing on shows since he was six years old. He recently completed an A Level in theater and is preparing to start a theater degree at Norwich University of the Arts.

Harry has already appeared in four CSODS productions as well as performances by the New Taverham Players and the Echo Youth Theater (Norwich).

Charlotte, from Aylsham, is a talented musician who joined CSODS in 2017 after only singing in her bedroom.

She starred as Sister Mary Robert in the critically acclaimed 2018 CSODS award-winning Sister Act.

It gave her the confidence to pursue her dream and her Level 3 voice lessons at Access to Music in Norwich.

Charlotte performed at Latitude last year and will start a degree in music performance in September alongside a job at the Norwich Theater Royal.

The Youth Bursary was established in memory of former CSODS member Gary Higgs who passed away at the age of 24.

Shrek The Musical is based on the 2001 animated film, and featuring a large cast, live orchestra, and colorful costumes and sets.

A spokesperson said, “The show is guaranteed to bring smiles and toe-tapping with its witty script and catchy original songs.”
